During the summer months, it is important to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Do you consume eight 8-ounce glasses per day? Many people have a difficult time with sticking to this rule. Creating a healthy habit around hydration will help you “Feel Better and Live Longer!” Meeting your daily quota of water intake will improve your metabolism, boost your energy, improve your digestion, reduce cravings, and give you better looking skin.
Transform yourself into well-hydrated individual by following a few of these tips:
- Drink a room temperature glass of water each morning, upon wakening. This will send a "wake up" message to your body and plump up cellular membranes that have dehydrated during the night. Make it a ritual to have a full glass, before you reach for a cup of coffee.
- Enjoy a full glass of water before each meal. This will provide you will a sense of fullness, leading to less overall calorie consumption. Only sip water during meals to avoid diluting out digestive enzymes, that are needed to breakdown and metabolize food.
- Grab a bottle to go. Carry a water bottle with you in your car to drink on the way to and from work or running errands. Keep a reusable water bottle to refill at work, home or at the gym.
Practicing these tips will help you get to your "eight a day". Remember that you may need more water than this rule suggests, especially if you are perspiring through exercise, physical labor, and summer activities. Stay hydrated, stay healthy!
