Motorists can once again bypass downtown Sturgeon Bay by crossing the Bayview Bridge on Highway 42/57.
Construction crews began removing the barricades just after 6:30 Friday morning and had traffic flowing at 7 a.m. Sturgeon Bay resident Gerrit De Jonge was one of the first few motorists to head north over the bridge.
The bridge now boasts a new coat of paint, an overlay, electrical and machinery upgrades and an extended life expectancy.
A press release from the Wisconsin DOT advised the public the highway would be opened at six; however those trying to cross before seven had to turn around.
The sidewalk will remain closed to pedestrians and bicyclists until July 28.
