Lucille A. Nelson, 95 years, of Sturgeon Bay, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday morning (May 29, 2013) at Skilled Nursing Facility, with her family at her side.
She was born Lucille Anna Wilke on January 21, 1918 in Forestville, the daughter of the late August and Lydia (Diefenbach) Wilke. Lucille graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1936. She worked as a nurse’s aid for 27 years at Door County Memorial Hospital. On August 21, 1943 she married Nels E. Nelson in Ephraim. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1990.
Lucille was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and their president in 1987, the church choir, and Golden Agers. She loved knitting, crocheting, and embroidering.
Survivors include her three daughters, Mary Ann (Dennis) Magle of Algoma, Barbara (Daniel) Obernberger of Brussels, Margaret (Gerhardt) Brungraber of Shawno; two sons, Gerald (Anna) Nelson of Sturgeon Bay, Leland (Agnes) Nelson of Florence, WI; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Emily Ploor, Evelyn Ploor, Jeanette Mann all of Sturgeon Bay; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Wilke of Sturgeon Bay.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Nels (1990); infant son, Michael; two sisters, Mable Sternard and Adeline Arbter; two brothers and sister-in-law, Melvin (Virginia) Wilke, Harold Wilke; five brothers-in-law, Don Mann, Aloicious Ploor, Richard Sternard, Frank Arbter, and Wilfred Ploor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 1, 2013) at St. Peters Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Zessin officiating. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening (May 31, 2013) at Huehns Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Devotion will be held on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given in her memory to St. Peters Lutheran Church Faithful Hands or St. Peters Lutheran School.
