Joan Edwards

Joan Edwards, 88 passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Scandia Village. She was born in Racine on October 20, 1925 daughter of the late John and Matilda (nee: Bankenbusch) Jacobi. She was married on July 18, 1942 to Wilbert “Bill” Edwards in the Parsonage of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Racine.

She was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, active in the Alter Guild, Cross and Crown and helped with Concordia School lunch program. She was a charter and establishing member of Preservation Racine and Chairman of the Blake House committee during restoration. She also loved to travel and with her husband Bill ran their Gold Mine Antiques business for a number of years. She enjoyed her group of swimming buddies at the YWCA and then at the DeKoven Foundation.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Judy Edwards of Egg Harbor; granddaughter Jennifer Edwards; great grandchildren Jessica Edwards, Christopher Gissel, Jonathan Lemke, Kadi Edwards all of Racine; and her great-great grandchildren; sister Katherine Herman and family and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; grandson, Brian Edwards; sisters Jeanette Edwards, Margaret Heather, and one brother, John Waters.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fish Creek (Juddville) at 11:00 a.m. on Monday December 23, 2013 with Lay Minister Gary Scharrig and Interim Pastor Karla Kirkeby officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Private interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery.

A deep thank you is offered by the family to Scandia Village staff as well as the Clergy at St. Paul’s. All of you brought so much care and love into mother’s final year.

Memorial donations to Scandia Village have been suggested.
