Captain Gerald "Jerry" Nelson

Captain Gerald “Jerry” Nelson, 77, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at his residence in the town of Forestville on January 14, 2014. He was born on June 29, 1936, in Sturgeon Bay to Leonard and Caroline (Becker) Nelson. On August 8, 1959, he married Patsy Lou Miller at Bay View Lutheran Church.

During his life, Jerry worked as a tug boat captain on the Great Lakes for numerous companies, including Luedtke Engineering, Selvick Marine, and George Gradel Company in Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, 3 sons, Mark (LeaAnn) Nelson, Plymouth, Paul (Debora) Nelson, Las Vegas, NV; Eric Nelson, Sheboygan; 2 grandchildern, Joshua and Kayla Nelson; 2 step-grandchildren, Sam and Joshua; 1 brother, Bob (Delores) Nelson, Sturgeon Bay; 1 sister, Carol Bockhop, Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews, and his dog, Bo.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Bay View Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Malek officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
