Gloria M, Dernbach

Gloria M. Dernbach, 72, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home Monday evening, January 20, 2014, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.

She was born April 22, 1941, in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Clarence and Mae (Fait) Rupiper. Gloria graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay. On November 24, 1962, she married Sylvester “Cy” Dernbach at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Green Bay. Gloria had worked at Door County Hardware and the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Harbor until her retirement. Together, Gloria and Cy owned Davis Mortuary in Sturgeon Bay from 1988 until 2001, when they sold it to Todd and Renee Huehns.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and active at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, both in Sturgeon Bay. Gloria was active in Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, Business Women, Cub Scouts as a Den mother, Girl Scout Leader, and President and longtime board member of Neighbor to Neighbor.

Her surviving family includes four children, Tom (Susan) of Bend, Oregon, Tim of San Diego, CA, Dan (Kate) of Fallbrook, CA, Kristin (Ted) Blackwood of Cambridge, WI; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Beret, Gus, Sam, Hannah, Emma, Amanda, Luke; two sisters, Terry (Richard) Schneider, and Mary Cleeremans of Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Barbara Dernbach of Marine City, MI; three brothers-in-law, Robert (Suzi) Dernbach of Appleton, George Greenwood of Kaukauna, and Mexico, and Al Lenss of St. Louis Park, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Cy (2008).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 27, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Stegmann and Fr. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at Huehns Funeral Home and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the procession to church at 10:30 a.m. A Christian Mothers Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Huehns Funeral Home. A parish wake service will close the evening at 6:45 p.m. (Sunday).

Gloria was a determined, independent woman, who fought many heath battles the last 20 years, and never let them slow or get her down. She knew the risks of her surgery, but was determined to fight; she now rests in the arms of God.

Memorials may be made in her memory to Neighbor to Neighbor or St. John Bosco Catholic School.

Huehns Funeral Home is assisting the Dernbach family with arrangements. Online condolences and guestbook signing may be offered on Gloria’s tribute page at
