Allan M. Stearns, 78, of Sturgeon Bay, died Monday afternoon, February 3, 2014 at Ministry-Door County Medical Center.
He was born April 6, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Martin and Marie (Vail) Stearns. Following graduating from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL class of 1953, Allan continued his education and received his BA from St. Thomas College in Minnesota.
On June 29, 1957 he married Mary Patricia Colby in Oak Park. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post 3088 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He owned Stearns Sales in Chicago and Sturgeon Bay, an independent sales agency. He and Mary have lived in Sturgeon Bay the past 16 years.
Allan was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus in Illinois. He enjoyed being with family, fishing and running the business.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary of Sturgeon Bay; six children, Allan (Iris) Stearns of Crystal Lake, IL, Dan (Sue) Stearns of St. Charles, IL, Mary Beth (George) Pedatella of West Chicago, IL, Kathleen Platta of Des Plaines, IL, Kevin Stearns of Addison, IL, Eileen (Mike) Hartnett of Bartlett, IL, eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Detrana of Hinsdale, IL.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Martin and Marie Stearns; and one brother-in-law, Frank Detrana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Addison, IL. Friends may call from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Humes Funeral Home 320 W. Lake Street, Addison, IL 60101, and at the church Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 9:30 a.m.
There will be a memorial gathering at the Stearns home in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday February 15, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
