Cari L. Schartner

Cari Lynn Schartner, 56, of Green Bay, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, was called to her eternal rest and reunited with her husband, Frank, on Sunday, February 23, 2014, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born November 1, 1957, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Jerry and Linda (Lautenbach) Colombo. Cari graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1975. On May 29, 1976, she was united in marriage to Frank Schartner, Jr. at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute (Sturgeon Bay). He preceded her in death on May 30, 2003.

Our mother’s Christ-centered faith was very important to her. Her infectious energy could put a smile on anyone near her. Family meant everything to Cari, raising her children through all of their activities growing up and attending sporting events and high school and college activities. She was so proud of the college education her children had received and the career paths they had chosen. Cari loved the additions of her son-in-law and daughter-in-law to her family. She was able to see her son, Frank, married this past Wednesday at her bedside at home. Cari was so proud to be grandma to William and Zita DeLeers.

She was currently a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Green Bay and loved helping with all church activities, pitching in whenever and wherever she was needed. Cari enjoyed gardening, being in Florida, and was also an avid Packer fan.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her two children, Tia (Paul) DeLeers (and their children, William and Zita), Frank (Lindsey) Schartner, both of Green Bay; one brother, Bart (Meagan) Colombo of Suamico; two sisters, Dena (Randy) Schmidt of Sturgeon Bay, Cheri (Cary) Lauritzen of Pulaski; the Schartner family of Sturgeon Bay, Lynn (friend, Del) Hails, Nancy (Robert) Moore, Joe (Jan) Schartner, Jeff (Laurie) Schartner, Mary (Randy) Leist, Sandy (Richard) Brauer; many dear nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; aunts and uncles; and her loving dog, Gracie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Linda Colombo; two step mothers, Carol Bieri Colombo, Darlene Pavlik Colombo; her parents-in-law, Frank and Dolores Schartner; and her grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (intersection of State Highway 57 and Dunn Rd. in Sturgeon Bay) with Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, OFM, Fr. John Tourangeau, O Praem., and Fr. Matt Simonar concelebrating. Burial will be in S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Huehns Funeral Home (1414 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235) and at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. There will be a prayer service led by Fr. Ron Belitz at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, at Huehns Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Prince of Peace Catholic Community (3425 Willow Rd., Green Bay, WI 54311) or S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (4767 Dunn Rd., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).

Online condolences and guestbook signing may be offered on Cari’s tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
