Mary Louise Claflin

Mary Louise Claflin, 88, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center on April 12th with her daughters at her side. She was born on February 26, 1926, to Clark and Eva (Reichel) Greenfelder in Massillon, Ohio.

After her high school graduation, she married her pen pal sweetheart, Aaron Claflin, on December 29, 1945. Aaron completed his service in the U.S. Air Force and then they moved to Sturgeon Bay, which was Aaron’s hometown. After Aaron’s death in 1971, she began working at Doerr Electric until her retirement.

Mary loved country music, polka dances, bus trips, watching Lawrence Welk and Dean Martin shows, and especially watching the Packers. She kept a diary of every day’s happenings.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Delveaux, Brussels; Patty (Rick) LeMere, New Franken; and Cheryl (Gary) Nault, Sturgeon Bay; daughter-in-law, Vicki Claflin, Sturgeon Bay; two sisters, Barb (Jim) Hoagland, Massillon, Ohio and Helen (Richard) Lutz, Lady Lake, FL; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Howard Greenfelder; her husband; a son, Wayne Claflin; and son-in-law, George Delveaux.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Corpus Christi Church with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in Stevenson Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 16, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Forbes Funeral Home with a rosary to be held at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the Alzheimer’s unit staff for the kind and caring support that was given.
