Leona E. (Bodwin) Bruemmer, formerly of Tisch Mills, and more recently a resident of Kewaunee Care Center, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at the home.
Leona was born July 14, 1918 in Edgar, WI, to parents Arthur and Mary (Grimm) Bodwin. She graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers in 1936 and continued her education at Manitowoc Business College, graduating in 1938. Prior to her marriage she worked as a secretary at Rahr Malting in Manitowoc.
In 1941, Leona married Earl Bruemmer of Carlton, Kewaunee County. Together the couple was engaged in farming at that location as well as in the Tisch Mills area. She also was employed with WI Electric at Point Beach Information Center for many years, retiring in1989.
Leona was a member of St. Isadore the Farmer Parish in Tisch Mills, where she was a member of the Rosary Society, and a former member of the Daughters of Isabella. Religion was a big part of Leona's life, and she spent many hours praying for anyone who was in need of prayers.
Leona is survived by her three daughters; Peggy (Fred) Kohnle of Tisch Mills, Jane (Ron) Zimmerman of Two Creeks, and Lois Skirvanie (Gary Strojny) of Suamico. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Christopher (Beverlv) Kohnle of Tisch Mills, Matthew (Elizabeth) Kohnle of Tisch Mills, Aaron Zimmerman of rural DePere, Cary Luedtke of Manitowoc, Allen J. Luedtke of Tisch Mills, and Elizabeth Zimmerman and husband Dan Bartl of Chicago. Four great grandchildren also survive; Alexandria and Samuel Kohnle, and Claire and Payton Kohnle. Surviving also is one brother, Ralph Bodwin of Two Rivers, and one sister-in-law Marge Bodwin, of rural Reedsville. Many other friends and relatives survive as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, Art and Mary Bodwin; her in-laws; Joseph and Edna (Messmann) Bruemmer; her twin brother and his wife, Leonard and Bernice Bodwin; brother Everett Bodwin and his wife Florence; brother, Donald Bodwin; sister Eleanore Kopetsky and her husband Stanley; sister, Grace Bodwin; and sister-in-law, Francis Bodwin. A son-in-law, Walter Skirvanie, also preeeded her in death.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Ken and his staff at Silver Leaf Manor Assisted Living in Kewaunee and the staff at Kewaunee Care Center for the wonderful care she received at both facilities. Special thanks to her brother Ralph Bodwin, his daughter Darlene Newman, and Ralph’s grandson, Stephan Newman, who visited her often, bringing her treats and flowers. Veronica Pekarek was like another daughter, visiting her often, cheering her with her company, cards, and special little gifts. Former neighbors, Jerry and Joe Ratajczak deserve thanks
for their visits and home made bakery. The kind volunteers from the Mishicot Meals on Wheels, who along with a tray of food, brought smiles, conversation and help when needed; your daily kindness didn't go unnoticed. Thanks also to Deacon Bob Pribek and his wife Jill, along with Deacon Bob Wavrunek and his wife Christal, and to Fr. Dennis Drury, all of whom supported her these past years. A very special thank you to all who remembered her with cards and visits during the holidays and her birthdays.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28 at St. Isadore the Farmer Parish in Tisch Mills, with Fr. Dennis Drury officiating. Visitation will be at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Kewaunee after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Dcn. Robert Pribek. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday after 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
