Cynthia “Cyndi” Forbes went to home to Heaven on December 18, 2013 in Helena, Montana after a short battle with cancer. Cyndi was born in Waukegan, Illinois on July 23, 1941 and lived in Milwaukee for most of her adult life. She and her husband John moved to Helena, Montana in 2002.
Cyndi married John Forbes in October 1962 at Hope Lutheran Church. Their family grew in 1964 with the birth of their son, Scott and again in 1966 with the birth of their daughter, Bonnie.
Cyndi’s parents, Ernest and Marie (Nelson) Voeltz, moved up to Sister Bay in the 1950’s where they ran a jewelry store (which they moved to Baileys Harbor later on). Her mom, Marie, was born in Door County, as her father was a lighthouse keeper. They are the Nelson’s of “Nelson Point” inside Peninsula State Park. Cyndi went to Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek, would have been in the Class of 1960, but her family moved out of the area before her senior year. She fondly remembered her years in Door County and loved going back to visit. She was happy to know that would be her final resting place.
Cyndi is survived by her husband John (in Montana), her son Scott and his wife Jodi and their children Adina, Erica and Jacob (all in Illinois), her daughter Bonnie (in Iowa), and her niece, Diane (in Illinois).
A burial service is being held at Blossomburg Cemetery inside Peninsula State Park in Door County, Wisconsin on May 17, 2014 at 11:30am. Feel free to wear your Green and Gold as we celebrate her life.
