Clifton John Schroeder, 76, of Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep in the loving arms of his family and awoke in the arms of the Lord, Friday night, July 18, 2014, at the Palliative Care Unit of Golden Living Center – Dorchester.
He was born June 23, 1938, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Edward and Shirley (Berger) Schroeder. Cliff graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1957 and went on to work for American Motors as an assembly worker until 1964. He worked for Bay Shipbuilding Co. for a short time prior to his employment with the Door County Sheriff’s Department. He worked as a radio dispatcher and jailer for 26 years until his retirement in 1991.
Cliff was united in marriage to Charlotte Krowas on September 22, 1962, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. They were blessed with nearly 52 years of marriage together. Cliff was currently a member of Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church.
He loved fishing on the lake and on the bay for perch. Cliff was known for making trolling flies, which have been sold at various sporting goods stores. He liked playing cards every afternoon and dominos with the neighbors every Tuesday night. In his retirement, he enjoyed (wood) working with his scroll saw in his basement workshop until his health began to decline.
His love will live on in the hearts of his wife, Charlotte “Charlie”; three sons, Edward (Lynn), Jeff (Julie), all of Sturgeon Bay, Michael of Oconto Falls; three grandchildren, Jordan and Kendall Vandertie, Brittany Schroeder; sister, Agnes (Rudy) Pavlik of Waterford; brother, Norbert (Alveretta) of Oxford, AR; mother-in-law, Dorothy Krowas of Sturgeon Bay; six sisters-in-law, Bonnie Schroeder of Sturgeon Bay, Nancy Schroeder of Sister Bay, Beverly (Ron) Stieglitz of Green Bay, Betty (Dan) Piontak of Athelstane, Carol (Dan) Kolosovsky of Greenfield, Tammy (Ron) Lagerman of Trinidad, CO; four brothers-in-law, Arlen Ortlieb of Oxford, Herbert Krowas of Sturgeon Bay, Dan (Cherie) Krowas of Baileys Harbor, David Joanne (Joanne) Krowas of Green Bay; many nieces; nephews; and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; sister, Hazel Ortlieb; and two brothers, Harvey (Audrey) and Paul.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr., and Rev. Reeder Herrick officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church, Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
