Kenneth Frank Nelson, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at Bellin Health Hospital, Green Bay after a short illness on September 17, 2012.
He was born August 15, 1923, in Sturgeon Bay to Frank and Alma Nelson. Ken grew up in the Door County communities of Sevastopol and Little Harbor until serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during WW II. He graduated from Sevastopol High School and University of Wisconsin with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ken was employed by the state of Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 38 years until he retired in 1986 and moved back to Little Harbor. He was a member of Chi-Epsilon society of Civil Engineers and the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.
Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years Ivy Lou (Jorns) Nelson; two children, Rodney (Stephanie) Nelson, of Houston, TX and Jane (Dan) Nesbitt, of Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren, Chelsea (Andrew Zahansky) Nelson, Logan Nelson, Erik (Ashley Ash) Cordier and Andrew (Kristi) Cordier. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Laurel Ann Toseland and Mildred Speerschneider.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at St. Peters Lutheran Church with the Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of services. On-line condolences may be offered at http://www.forbesfuneralhome.com/.
