Jean Sperber

Jean Sperber, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at her home on October 23, 2012. She was born on September 1, 1938, in Wauwatosa, WI to Jess and Viola (Ripp) Torp. On April 22, 1961, she married Robert C. Sperber in Institute.

Jean was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Door Drifters Snowmobile Club. She was a past board member of the Sunshine House and was currently serving as the treasurer of the local Thrivent for Lutherans Board of Directors. Jean was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and had served on numerous committees. She also worked at Baylake Bank for many years. Jean enjoyed gardening and knitting, but most of all she enjoyed helping other people. She was Mother and G’mom extraordinaire!

Jean is survived by her husband, Robert; three daughters, Cyndi (Mike) Frea, Sturgeon Bay; Mary (Andrew) Skarvan, Sturgeon Bay; Amy Sperber, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Carley Frea, Andrew Skarvan, and Matthew Frea; four brothers, Jess (Helen) Torp, Tom Torp, Jerry (Dolores) Torp, Jim Torp; one sister, Annie (Loren) Peil; in-laws, Darlene Torp, and Marilyn (Wayne) Carney. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Torp; in-laws, Herb (Anna) Sperber, Grace (Wally) Kurth, and Corrine Sperber.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Kolterjahn officiating. Burial will be at Hainesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran School. On-line condolences may be offered at
