Phillip David Roberts, 75, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away quietly early Sunday morning, November 25, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility of Ministry-Door County Medical Center with family by his side. He spent much time visiting with his family and friends at the SNF.
Phil was born February 18, 1937 in Shinnston, WV, the son of the late Robert and Allouise (Overbeck) Roberts. Following his graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1955, he served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1963. On December 31, 1966 he married Nancy Gordon at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. Phil continued his education at UW-Stevens Point earning his bachelors degrees in Business Administration and Economics in 1973. He furthered his education with an associates degree in Medical Management from NWTC in 1994. Over the years, Phil worked for Peterson Builders, Schlise Plumbing, and Door County Co-op.
He was a proud patriot and an active member of AM Vets Post #51 in Sturgeon Bay, a volunteer at the Pot Park Ski Hill, and the Sail Training Foundation. Phil loved to read, learn and was an advocate of education and continuing studies for all, especially his children. He felt his life was “well-lived”.
Phil will be dearly missed by his wife, Nancy of Sturgeon Bay; son, Gordon of Sturgeon Bay, daughter, Heidi (Carl) Rabeneck of Menomonie, WI; three grandchildren, MacKenzie Roberts, Carl and Quin Phillip Rabeneck; two sisters and their families, Mary (Ken) Wendt of Sturgeon Bay and Suzanne Churchill of Green Bay; four sisters-in-law and their families, Judy (Lew) Juadis, Georgiana (Joe) Bourgouin, and Mary Gordon, all of Sturgeon Bay, and Betty Fries of Illinois.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert and Allouise Roberts; in-laws, Rod and Mabel Gordon; and sister-in-law, Jean Derenne.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (November 30, 2012) at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp officiating. Military honors with Am Vets Post #51 will be provided at the church. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
Phil’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Ministry – Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility for the wonderful care, friendships and support he received these past months.
