Geraldine "Gerry" Ebel

Geraldine (Gerry) Ebel, age 87, of Sturgeon Bay, entered into eternal peace on December 30, 2012, at Golden Living Center – Dorchester.

Gerry was born on August 20, 1925, to Edward and Stella Schwab in Bloomer, Wisconsin. She married Melvin Ebel at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Dobie, Wisconsin, on May 14, 1947. The couple owned and operated a farm near RiceLake until 1965 when they moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where Melvin was employed at Peterson Builders Shipbuilding.

Gerry, being a fantastic cook and baker, pursued her passion by working at several restaurants in Door County, including Andre’s, the Yacht Club, and Murphy’s in Egg Harbor.

Gerry was an active member of Peterson Shipbuilders Auxiliary and the Ladies (St Ann’s Society) of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. After she retired, she worked with Respite Care.

It boggles the mind to realize all the loves our Mom had in her life. To list a few: vegetable and flower gardens, (She always said: "I want to have my flowers when I can see them; not at my funeral”). She also enjoyed canning, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, crafting, and reading. Yet, she always had time to check out the rummage sales and shopping. She loved to go out to lunch and dinner with her family and friends whenever the opportunity presented itself. After she retired, she also loved to travel as she ventured to Czechoslovakia, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and many of the states within our great country.

Gerry is survived by her six children: Yvonne (Tom) Sheley, Two Rivers; Greg (Sue) Ebel, Joann (Dan) Cihlar, Judy (Dean) Schumacher, Sandra (William) Wiesner, Ed (Patt) Ebel; all from Sturgeon Bay; her 16 grandchildren, Steve (Kim) Stangel, Stella (Jon) Mixa, Andrew (Carrie) Ebel, Matt (Jessica) Ebel, Luke Ebel (and special friend, Katie), Zeb Ebel (and special friend, Andrea), Wade Ebel (and special friend, Laura), Eric (Anna) Cihlar, Mike (Gretchan) Cihlar, Blake Cihlar (and special friend, Erin), Melanie Schumacher, Chris (Kristin) Schumacher, Craig (Mara) Schumacher, Brad Wiesner (and special friend, Ashley), Bryan (Nicole) Wiesner, Paula (Damien) Evans, Jason Cihlar; and 17 great-grandchildren. Gerry is also survived by her brother, Virgil (Charlotte) Schwab; sister, Virginia Tomesh, sister-in-law, Dorothy Schwab, brother-in-law Laverne Ebel; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin on November 21, 1989, her parents, Ed and Stella Schwab, her in-laws, Frank and Anna Ebel, a brother, Duane Schwab, a sister, Darlene Beranek, and a son-in-law, James Elsen.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. On-line condolences may be offered at www.forbesfuneralhome.com.

Gerry will be missed as the centerpiece by her loving family.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dorchester Nursing Home and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care given her in her final days.
