Robert “Bob” Fischer, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home on Jan. 3, 2013, with his family at his side. He was born on Feb. 20, 1938, in Waukesha to Francis and Anna (Flanders) Fischer. On Nov. 6, 1966, he married Noel McLees in Richfield Park, New Jersey.
Following high school, Bob served a tour of duty with the U. S. Coast Guard. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and went to work for General Motors in their finance department. Bob left G.M. in 1976, and went to work for Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay as vice-president, secretary-treasurer. After 15 years, he left Bay Shipbuilding and went to work for the Manitowoc Company as the corporate manager of internal controls.
Bob was a member of the Amvets Post #51 of Sturgeon Bay and a past member of the Sturgeon Bay Elks Club. He was instrumental in the building of the Elks Club Facility in Sturgeon Bay, which is now the Jaycee Club House. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, golfing with friends, reading, collecting maritime memorabilia, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Noel; 2 children, Robb (Dawn) Fischer, Sturgeon Bay; and Darcy Fischer, Sturgeon Bay; he was “Bompa” to two grandchildren, Alec and Anna Fischer; he is also survived by a brother, Frank (Celeste) Fischer, Delafield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Constance Fischer, 2 brothers, Joseph and Peter, and 1 sister, Tess.
A celebration of life in honor of Bob will be held on Feb. 2, 2013, starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Jaycee Club House in Sturgeon Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Door County Humane Society, the Amvets, or the Maritime Museum. The Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (www.forbesfuneralhome.com).
