John R. Williamson

John R. Williamson, 62 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, (January 5, 2013).

He was born May 10, 1950 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Ragnvald Knutin and Solveig (Sandvik) Williamson. John graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1968. He served 23 years with the U.S. Navy in communications on the carriers, Nimitz and America, and battleship Missouri. After retiring in 1992 he returned to Sturgeon Bay. John had worked for Hatco, and drove for Swift and Schneider before working for Door County Highway Department.

John was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading sci-fi novels, and was a movie fanatic.

Survivors include his brother, Art (Renee) Williamson; sister, Sandra Williamson both of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews, Cheryl (David) Sperber (and their daughter, McKenzie), Brad Williamson (and his children, Jacy, McKayla and Emma), and Arne Williamson of Beaver Dam.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and brother, Robert (1995).

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (January 19, 2012) at Huehns Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Malek officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery in spring.

Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home Saturday (January 19, 2013) from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Military honors will follow at Huehns Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to any Homeless Veterans Fund.
