John Arthur Spahr, 71, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away early Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Ministry Door County Medical Center.
He was born on October 19, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Arthur and Elizabeth Rose (Offenloch) Spahr. After high school he served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 until his discharge in 1964. On October 6, 1961 he married Carol Ann Tronvig in Wildwood, Illinois. For 20 years John was employed with International Harvester and worked as a residential coordinating engineer at Peterson Builders, Inc. plant II. After moving to Sturgeon Bay, he worked at Lamperts Lumberyard, Bay Pharmacy, and later at Emerson until it closed and John retired.
He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. In his free time he liked camping, cooking, gardening, and running his hobby farm, complete with animals. He truly enjoyed playing with his children outside along with all the neighborhood kids.
John will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Carol of Sturgeon Bay; his five children, Kim Bagnall (her special friend, Bob Jennerjohn along with her children, Tom, Mike and Adam Bagnall) all of Sturgeon Bay, Tina (Terry) Kerscher of Suamico (and their children, Danny and Aliece Brooke Kerscher), Sue (Mike) Sowinski of Fleming Island, Florida,( and their children, Marissa and Meghan Sowinski), John Spahr of Fox Lake, Illinois, Chuck (Karli) Spahr of Sturgeon Bay (and their children, Samantha, Cody and Hunter Spahr); and one sister, Nancy Dunn of Illinois.
He was preceded in death his parents, sister, Jeanette (Dean) Holden.
John’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Peters Lutheran Church with Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Military honors will follow at the church. Burial will be made at Bayside Cemetery.
Friends and family may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. There will be a devotion at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
