Walter Edward Eckert, Jr., 74, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Anna’s House CBRF with his wife, Gerry, at his side.
He was born September 15, 1938, to Walter and Agnes (Resler) Eckert, Sr. at the family home in Egg Harbor. Wally graduated from Sunny Point School. Later on in life, he studied at NWTC in Sturgeon Bay to prepare for caregiving. Throughout his life, Wally worked at Wisconsin Foods, Warner Wholesale, and Peterson Builders Inc, all in Sturgeon Bay. In his retirement, he cared for Harold Bast, who was like a father to him.
On Decemeber 13, 1975, Wally was united in marriage to Geraldine Difatta at Bay View Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 37 years together. Wally was most recently a member of Family Worship Center.
He loved playing baseball in the Door County League and also in the local softball league. Wally was inducted into DCL hall of fame. He umpired games for girls little league softball as well. Wally enjoyed playing in the dart ball league for 50 years and bowling league. He even drove his mustang in the stock car races. Wally enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, and going to Brewer games.
Survivors include his wife, Gerry, of Sturgeon Bay; children, Anne (Jay) Matthews of Iron Moutain, MI, Bob (Annette) Eckert of Kenosha, WI, Steve Page of Mishicot, WI, Eric (fiancé, Lori) Page of Valders, WI, and Gina (Jason) Hocevar of Two Rivers, WI; grandchildren, Jason and Justin Matthews, Sean Eckert, Stephanie and Bailey Page, Celeste Page, and Jake and Abby Hocevar; siblings, Mary Ann Wendt of Casco, WI, Edward (Chris) Eckert of AZ, Betty Jean (Armand) Tipler of Sturgeon Bay, William (Patsy) Eckert of Brussels, WI; nieces and nephews; special friend, Harold Bast of Sturgeon Bay; and other friends.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Family Worship Center in Sturgeon Bay with Dr. Mark Schwarzbauer and Rev. Richard Oertel concelebrating. Friends and family may call at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 4:00 p.m.
