Roy G. Vandertie, 72, of Sturgeon Bay passed away at his home on February 18, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born June 2, 1940 in Forestville to Frank and Emily (Rankin) Vandertie. On April 11, 1959, he married Judy Hunsader in Algoma. Roy worked at Bay Shipbuilding for over 30 years and he also farmed. He enjoyed his pond, working in his shop and with antique tractors. Roy also liked playing cards with his friends and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; three children, Gary (Sandy) Vandertie, Russell (fiancé Alicia) and Sue Vandertie, all of Sturgeon Bay; seven grandchildren, Shana (Corey) Kinjerski, Jordan Vandertie, Logan Vandertie, Kendall Vandertie, Devin (fiancé Dakota) Vandertie, Rheys Vandertie, Aiden Vandertie; a great- granddaughter, Kloie; a brother, Wilbur Vandertie, Sturgeon Bay; four sisters, LaVerne Bretl, Two Rivers; Marion Tanck, Sturgeon Bay; Mildred (Walter) Denil, Forestville; Jeanette (Algie) Fenendael, Rio Creek; sister-in-law, Shirley Vandertie, Luxemburg; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Richard, Raymond, Norbert, Alvin, Lindy and an infant brother; a sister, Bernice Walter and his in-laws, Joe and Lillian Hunsader.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2013, at Holy Name of Mary Church, Maplewood, the Rev. Anthony Birdsall and Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Forbes Funeral Home (http://www.forbesfuneralhome.com/) and then after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church until time of services. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
