Leann A. Yanda, 71 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died Friday evening, (March 15, 2013) following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 30, 1941 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late John and Leone (Bongle) Olson. Leann graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1959. She had worked handling props and staging, and acted with Spotlighters at Peninsula Players. On July 10, 1993 she married Keith A. Yanda at Weborg Point in Peninsula State Park. They had been together since 1977. Leann worked for Milwaukee Shoe, Dorco, Midwest Wire from 1981 to 2001, and Door County Candle Co. until 2003.
The smell of fresh baked bread and other cooking was common in her house. She was known to cook six loaves a day when she helped with babysitting duties. Leann was a good cook and baker who enjoyed knitting, crewel, camping throughout the state and nationally out west, and attending the Mole Lake Music Festivals. Leann participated in the Christmas Bird Count for 12 years, along with the home feeder watch. Leann was an avid sports fan, who loved to watch the Brewers, Badgers and Packer games. She was known to do things her way.
Survivors include her husband, Keith of Sturgeon Bay; three daughters, Lisa (Roger) Hartel of London, Kentucky, Brenda (David) Jurss of Two Rivers, Paula (Howard) Chambers of Westfield, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Josh Gunnlaugsson, Kory Kroubetz, Tiffany Boodry, Jan Bush, Kevin Boodry, Beth Jurss and Lindsey Kroubetz who was like a granddaughter to her; four great-grandchildren, Memphis, Lilah, Vronnika, Connor, with one on the way; one brother, Alton (Mary) Olson of Denmark; one brother-in-law, Bob Speener; many nieces and nephew and cousins; and her three daughters’ father, Orin Gunnlaugsson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son-in-law, Tom Shinnick (1989); and one sister, Marion Speener.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 23, 2013) at Huehns Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Groth officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at 5:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home.
