Joanne VanCaster, 75, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, passed away early Sunday morning, March 17, 2013 at Algoma Long Term Care Unit.
She was born July 30, 1937 in Springfield, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph and Chlorist (Garrity) Burns. Following high school she received her Registered Nursing Degree from St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. Joanne worked as an ER nurse in Minneapolis, MN. On May 28, 1960 she married Jack VanCaster in Duluth while he was stationed there. They moved to Door County in 1970. Joanne worked as a RN with the Dorchester, Scandia, and Algoma Nursing Homes.
Joanne enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, cooking, and shopping for her four granddaughters.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Jack of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Lisa (Kevin) McMulkin of Spokane, WA; four granddaughters, Megan, twins-Wendy and Julie Joanne, and Anna McMulkin; and her mother, Chlorist Wagner of Algoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Burns, Chlorist’s second husband, Samuel Wagner, daughter, Margaret Elizabeth VanCaster; son, Timothy VanCaster; and her father and mother-in-law Theodore and Marie VanCaster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Thursday, (March 21, 2013) at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Entombment will be made at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Green Bay at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
