By Huehns Funeral Home

Doris “Dorie” Marie Ullsperger, 98, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Tuesday night, November 13, 2018 at Anna’s Healthcare CBRF.

She was born December 22, 1919 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late George Arthur Draeb and Lydia Louise (Taube) Draeb. Dorie was the drum majorette in the Sturgeon Bay High School marching band and graduated as class valedictorian with the class of 1937. She went on to study music at Lawrence University in Appleton. On October 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Frank Keith Ullsperger at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church where she remained a lifelong member. They were blessed with nearly 51 years of marriage. Frank preceded her in death on September 5, 1991.

Dorie worked as a clerk at her father’s business, Draeb Jewelers in Sturgeon Bay. She and Frank also operated their apple and cherry orchards together in addition to raising their family there.

Dorie was the organist and choir director at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church for over 50 years and played and sang for many weddings and funerals. She also sang with the Choraliers and Trouble Clefts. Dorie was active in the church circles and was also a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader. All of her family can attest to what a wonderful cook she was.

Dorie will be missed by her two daughters, Edie (Mike) Bushman and Grayce (Chuck) Brann, both of Sturgeon Bay; three grandchildren, Kirk (Martha) Bushman, Michelle (Tom) Schinktgen, and Jeff (Kaya) Brann; seven great-grandchildren, Kavari and Xaeli Brann, Kyle Bushman and Kaley (Bob) Lee, Devin, Derek, and Danielle “Dani” Schinktgen; sister-in-law, Joan A. Draeb of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was welcomed Home by her parents, George and Lydia Draeb; stepmother, Doris Draeb; husband, Frank; son-in-law, Bruce Miller; and sister and brother, Grace Draeb Chapman and John William “Bill” Draeb.

Dorie’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr. and Rev. Reeder Herrick officiating. She will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery, beside her husband, Frank.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.

Memorials may be given in her name for Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church or Unity Hospice.

“Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs at Anna’s Healthcare and Unity Hospice as well as the Huehns family and staff at Huehns Funeral Home for their wonderful care given to our mother and our family.”
