Raymond Clifford Gauthier

Raymond Clifford Gauthier, 85, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Door County Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born July 8, 1933 in Manitowoc County, the son of the late Raymond Gauthier, Sr. and Excilda (Copiskey) Gauthier.  Ray enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1953 and honorably served his country before his discharge in 1955. Following his enlisted service, Ray worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1988.  He and Beverly LeMere were united in marriage on September 18, 1996 in Lake Tahoe. The two were longtime members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Ray enjoyed going golfing and fishing in the summers and wintering in both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama.  He was very handy, whether he was painting or building something. Ray loved a good joke and was the most kind, humble person around.  Above all else, he was a family man and loved to be around those he loved.

Ray will be missed by his loving wife, Beverly; sons, Gary (Marna Nejedlo) Gauthier and Todd Gauthier; daughter, Dawn (Gary DeWitt) Alger; granddaughter, Alexis Alger; step-daughters, Lori Steinhauer and LuAnne LeMere; step-grandchildren, Kayla, Sam, and Ben Steinhauer and Jackie Bogenberger; two brothers, Larry (Diane) Doolittle and Ron (Karen) Doolittle; brother-in-law, Stanley LaViolette; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Gauther, Sr.; mother and step-father, Excilda and Arthur Doolittle; brother, Donald Gauthier; sisters, Marlene (Juel) Madsen and Delores LaViolette; and sister-in-law, Alice Doolittle.

In honor of Ray’s wishes, private services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
