Mary Kathleen Broerman, age 73, Algoma, WI, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, surrounded by her family many years after two courageous battles with cancer. She was born September 25, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Winton and Margaret (Schuk) Meyer.
Mary attended college in Missouri obtaining her bachelors degrees in Education and Nursing Studies. She married her beloved husband Richard “Dick” Broerman on June 1, 1974 in St. Louis, MO. She went on to achieve her master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Illinois in 1980. She worked in Healthcare for over 30 years, dedicated to helping others.
After she retired she found her calling in volunteerism. She worked as a parish nurse, assisted local animal shelters and provided support to children and families in need.
Mary K. faced her cancers with a strong and courageous face and she never let any of her health struggles hold her back. She consistently put others before herself and was a model of decency and selflessness. Mary enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband Dick throughout their marriage; wintering as snow-birds along the gulf coast and Florida most recently. She cherished the time spent with her children; whether it was shopping with her daughters or following her son's fishing reports from the Algoma harbor or just spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard; three children Byron Broerman, Cindy (Mike) Carter and Richelle (Ross) Kapp; five grandchildren Ray, Hunter and Nate Broerman, Fredrick and Richard Kapp; sisters Barb (Ken) Hedicke, Lynn Meyer; sister-in-law Pat (Don) Meyer, several nieces and nephews and her furbabies Blossom and Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winton and Margaret Meyer, and father and mother-in-law Henry and Alfrieda Broerman.
Mary K. was an absolute delight to be around; the most thoughtful and genuine person you would ever know and she will be sadly missed by everyone who's experienced her kindness. Family and friends may gather for visitation at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 5 - 7 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 and continuing on Friday, July 9tht from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay, WI, with Father Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Algoma, WI following.
