Robert R. Entringer

Robert R. (Bob) Entringer 85, passed away August 07, 2023. He was born July 2, 1938, to Rufus and Viola Entringer. Bob was raised in Algoma, he graduated from St. Mary Grade School in 1952 and Algoma High School in 1956. Upon graduation Bob attended St. Norbert College, graduating in 1960. Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an officer in the 73rd Signal Battalion. He was stationed at Ft. Hood Texas and in Germany.


Following an Honorable discharge, Bob then began a career in teaching. He taught English and Biology at River Valley High School in Spring Green WI. During this time he was President of the River Valley Education Association and also served on the Public Relations and Professional Responsibilities Committee for the Wisconsin Education Association. While living in Spring Green he helped to establish the River Valley Community Theater and he was very active with the local theater productions.


After Bob left Spring Green and returned to his hometown of Algoma, he began the next chapter in his life. While still teaching as a substitute, Bob also helped to start-up the Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville. Being one of the original employees, he enjoyed giving tours of the winery and helping visitors select the perfect bottle of wine. He continued there until the age of 83 because he enjoyed meeting people.


Bob was also very involved and active in community. He served as the chairman of the Kewaunee County Democratic Party for 25 years. He was a Vice Chair of the 8th Congressional District and was elected to the County Board of Supervisors. He served on the Elderly Services Committee as chairperson and was a member of the Baylake Planning Commission. Somehow in all this he was also President of the Algoma Hospital Board.


Bob was also a very dedicated member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. He served as Secretary and President of Lions Clubs in both Spring Green and later in Algoma. In 1974 he was elected a District Governor for District 27B2. Recently, he was presented with a brick in his name to be placed on the wall of honor at the Lions youth camp in Rosholt Wisconsin. During his time with the Lions Club, he attained the prestigious Melvin Jones Award.


As a lifelong member of St. Mary Parish, Bob gave of his time, talent and treasure. He was very active in parish activities, including time as Parish Council President and Lector. He was also a member of the Algoma Knights of Columbus.


Bob had a lifelong passion for reading and learning, served several years as President of the Kewaunee County Library Board and represented Kewaunee County on the Nicolet Federated Library Board. A personal passion was lifelong collecting of fine Leather bound classic books. He was an avid stamp and sports memorabilia collector. He loved sports and fishing. He was a kind and giving person, generous to his friends. He cared about community and was deeply worried about the politics of today.


Bob wished to thank all the Doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants who helped with his final months. Along with his close friends Tracy, Laurie, Janet, the rest of his winery family, and neighbor’s Ron and Jody. He also wanted to recognize his parish family member and caretaker Ed.


Robert is survived by a few cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, infant twins Janet and John, and his own twin sister Roberta.  
There will be a public visitation for Bob on Monday, August 14th, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Algoma, with Father Andrew Kurz officiating.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military rites.
