Edward "Eddie" G. Hunsader

Edward “Eddie” G. Hunsader Jr., 82, Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, August 21, 2023, after a brief illness. 

The son of Edward G. Hunsader Sr. and Doris (Burke), Edward was born on July 26, 1941, in Sturgeon Bay. He was a graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School (1959). Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Panama. After finishing his term in the Navy, he returned to Wisconsin and found work in Milwaukee at Allen-Bradley. On April 26, 1969, he married Susan Stephan. The two of them have enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Edward served for 28 years as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Door County Sheriff’s Department. 

Ed loved the outdoors, especially fishing, like his father. He was an avid runner and completed the Twin Cities Marathon four times. One of his favorite places was ‘the camp’ which he and Susan built with their friends in the U.P. It was his dying wish for his family to continue to enjoy spending time there. 

Survivors include his spouse, Susan (Stephan) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay; his children: Alan (Susan) Hunsader, Appleton, Erin Hunsader, Appleton, Phil (Carrie) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay; five grandchildren: Madeline and Peter, Kolin, Piper and Marin; and his siblings: Tina Danielson, Sturgeon Bay, Tony (Sue) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay and his niece, Justine (Paul) Mancheski (Forestville).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Ward Danielson.

Friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Forbes Funeral Home, 319 W. Spruce St., Sturgeon Bay from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for visitation.  A prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 pm that evening. The memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Mathew Rappl officiating, followed by military honors with meal to follow in the church basement. Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice for taking such great care of Eddie until the end, along with all our family, friends and neighbors who extended their loving kindness.
