Door County is blessed with scenic beauty, natural resources, year-round activities and non-profit civic and service organizations. Yet, it is people who give Door County its character. I’m DoorCountyDailyNews.com President and CEO Roger Utnehmer.
People make Door County a unique place to live, raise a family or grow a business. Often the people whose quiet contributions give this county it character are unrecognized. Consider the work Nancy Hutchinson is doing by spearheading the Adopt-a-Soldier program. Because of Nancy, Door County troops serving around the world have care packages from home.
Or Barb Herdina, the driving force behind Door Cancer. Barb, the Mother Theresa of Door County, has touched countless families with tender compassion at a time of crisis.
Without Anne Haberland we probably would not have a Door Community auditorium in Fish Creek. Sturgeon Bay and Fish Creek have world-class YMCA facilities that would not have been possible without the generosity of Ellsworth and Carla Peterson.
To these and all the quiet contributors to a better community I say thank you for making Door County the unique and remarkable place to live.
That’s my opinion. I’d like to hear yours. I’m Roger Utnehmer.
