I don’t always agree with (President) Obama (especially on Foreign Policy) but in this case I do: he should not fire Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs until investigation is complete.
I will not even mention the fact that our previous administrations sent our military to wars that were based on lies without anticipating the consequences on health care delivery needs for new and additional“eligible” Veterans.
What the media and our crooked, self serving politicians do not talk about is the following: by law NOT every veteran is eligible for care: there are EIGHT PRIORITY classifications: service connection or not, income level etc. play a role!
if indeed some veterans died while waiting for an appointment, was death caused by that delay or did they die of unrelated causes? If one is waiting for an appointment to see a doctor for an ingrown toenail and dies of a sudden heart attack it certainly is not the VA ‘s fault!
I also question why Veterans who could not get an appointment did not see a private doctor or emergency room if their condition worsened.
This entire affair is too complex and requires a thorough investigation before any punitive /corrective action can be taken/ordered by the President.
But it seems that expedient, political, populist solutions are advanced rather than an intellectual, mature and fair approach like waiting for the results of an ongoing investigation.
