Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently stated that he is opposed to the establishment of any Chick-fil-A restaurants in Chicago because Chick-fil-A values were not Chicago's values. This, because the head of that restaurant chain is opposed to gay marriage.
So why doesn't the mayor oppose the entry of Muslim-owned business into Chicago? Under Islamic law, homosexuality is not only a sin, it's a crime. And it seems that not even gay-marriage-opponent His Holiness, the Pope, would have values lofty enough to measure up to Chicago's.
People like Emanuel preach tolerance for all viewpoints, unless, of course, you are a Christian who takes his Bible literally and who exercises free-speech rights. Then, stand by for the attempts to punish you, to shut you up, or to ruin you financially via boycott.
By now, haven't we learned that there is room in America for all religious views? Don't people of all faiths have the right to pursue happiness without being economically penalized for their beliefs?
Divisive hypocrites like Emanuel may being spouting such rhetoric for short-term political gain. Unfortunately, such demagogy is an assault on the very foundations of our society, and, may I say, American values.
