For all Gary Nault has done to promote fishing in Door County he should be made an honorary lifetime member of every chamber of commerce, visitor bureau and business association in the county.
Nault has been guiding since 1987. He speaks throughout the Midwest at sport shows and conducts hundreds of seminars that are program-length commercials for Door County tourism.
Gary and his wife, Cheryl, operate the longest-running youth fishing event in Wisconsin.
And they see opportunity. With more miles of shoreline than any county in the state and the only place in the world where anglers can do both cold and warm water launching from one location, Gary Nault sees potential for fishing to grow in the years ahead.
More than $8.5 million is spent a day on fishing in Wisconsin.
And a longer season means anglers outspend hunters by a significant amount.
Fishing is directly responsible for more than 31,000 jobs in our state.
Gary Nault is the president of the area guides association and the voice of the DoorCountyDailyNews.com fishing report.
He is also actively working to bring a kids walleye tournament to Sturgeon Bay.
No individual has done more to promote the value of fishing to the Door County economy than Gary Nault.
Every single bar, sport shop, restaurant, convenience store, resort, hotel, gift shop, and jewelry store has better business because of anglers and Gary Nault.
He challenges everyone to welcome anglers and be "fishing friendly." It's good for business and an impressive opportunity for economic development.
That's my opinion. I'd like to hear yours.
