Algoma girls defense leading team

The Algoma girls basketball team is having a really good season so far thanks to their stifling defense. The Wolves have allowed all but three of their twelve opponents to score under 50 points. Head Coach Mark Zastrow says the team restricts penetration into the lane and they switch all screens. Coach Zastrow has always had his teams switch picks which is something that has become the popular thing to do in the NBA now thanks to the Golden State Warriors success. Zastrow is not scared of the individual mismatches that may come by using that strategy.

Algoma is 9-4 overall and 7-1 in the Packerland Conference. The Wolves took sole possession of the second place in the conference after knocking off Southern Door on Friday and beat Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday. Their only conference loss of the year so far came against Kewaunee who is undefeated in the conference. Algoma will host Green Bay East on Thursday night, tip-off at 7:30 PM.
