The Freedom Irish won eight of the 13 contested matches in the WIAA Division 2 Team Wrestling Sectional final Wednesday night to prevent Luxemburg-Casco from making a third straight appearance at state. 

After they were able to dispatch Winneconne in the semifinal 53-24, the Spartans were not able to carry over the momentum against their conference rival. Starting at 113 pounds, the Irish and the Spartans traded victories the first four matches before Reece Manteuffel and Ben Bredael registered pins to give Freedom a 20-7 advantage. A late escape prevented Nathan Ronsman from getting a critical major decision before Freedom's Sam Peters collected a technical fall against fellow state-ranked wrestler Colton Worachek. Reece Worachek and Garrett Jeanquart would get the last two contested decisions for the Spartans before the Irish won three of the final four weights to secure the sectional championship. Bryce Bosman, Reece Worachek, Lucas Joniaux, Ronsman, and Jeanquart all collected a pair of wins on the evening. Next up for seven Spartans wrestlers is the individual sectional tournament this weekend.
