Clippers, Vikings shut out of state tournament

The Door Peninsula will have to wait till next year to see a local team in the state baseball tournament after the Sturgeon Bay Clippers and the Gibraltar Vikings dropped their sectional final games Tuesday.

 

In Random Lake, the Clippers rode a great pitching performance by Jake Schneider to sneak past Winnebago Lutheran 1-0 in the semi-final. The offense was not able to match Ozaukee's offensive outburst in the sectional final, losing 13-2 in five innings.

As heard on 105.1 The Viking, Gibraltar advanced to the sectional final after Luke Steebs went the distance on the mound and drove in a pair with a double during its 9-2 win over Niagara in Crivitz. The Vikings could not stop another Athens comeback as the Blue Jays scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to capture the sectional title.
