The Packers claimed tight end Michael Roberts off waivers from the Detroit Lions on Monday, just a week after the Packers also claimed tight end Pharoah McKever from Pittsburgh. The two new additions add up to a total of six tight ends on the training camp depth chart.
In 23 NFL games, Roberts has totaled only 13 catches for 146 yards but has three touchdowns. Earlier in the offseason, the Lions appeared to have had a trade set up with the New England Patriots involving Roberts. However, the trade fell through and he was then placed on waivers before being picked up by the Packers.
The Packers’ tight end battle will be one to watch when training camp opens on July 25.
