The winning ways of the Milwaukee Brewers are getting them closer to a wild-card berth thanks to a 5-1 victory over the San Diego Padres Monday. Cory Spangenberg got things going for the Brewers with an RBI single in the second inning only to have that lead erased by an Eric Hosmer run-scoring double in the fourth. The Brewers would respond with a three-run rally thanks to a two-RBI triple by Spangenburg and Travis Shaw's seventh homer of the year. Orlando Arcia's RBI double in the sixth inning finished off the scoring for the Brewers.
With the Cardinals beating the Nationals, the Brewers climbed into a game of the second wild-card spot behind the Chicago Cubs.
