Phoenix split Monday slate

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team scored a road upset at Northern Kentucky while the women's squad came up just short against Wright State in their games Monday.

In Highland Heights, Kentucky, the Phoenix men took advantage of a cold shooting Norse squad while being efficient offensively to win their first Horizon League game of the season 73-59. PJ Pipes scored a career-high 20 points in the win while Manny Patterson collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The men return home Friday to face UIC.

At the Kress Center in Green Bay, the Phoenix women went cold at the wrong time in its 70-58 loss to the Raiders. The Phoenix did not make a shot from the field in the final minutes of the game while the Raiders came back from a three-point deficit in the third quarter to take control of the game. Frankie Wurtz led the Phoenix with 13 points. The Phoenix are back in action Saturday against in-state rival Milwaukee.
