Wrestling round-up: Southern Door tops Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol on 104.1 WRLU

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol won more matches but it was Southern Door picking up the dual meet win by a score of 54-21 on 104.1 WRLU Thursday night.

 

Only seven of the 14 weight classes had contested matches with the Clippeneers winning four of them. Nick West pinned Brodie Overbeck in the second period and Wyatt Coburn registered one of his own against Dylan Wessel to break up a string of forfeits given up by Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol. The Eagles' Griffin Slezewski and Kyle Conard got pins of their to clinch the win for Southern Door but even up the contested matches at two wins apiece. The most exciting match of the night went down to the wire as Clippeneers senior wrestler David Condra got a two-point reversal as time ran out against Eagles newcomer Jonas Jandrin to secure the victory. The Southern Door's Grant Englebert and  Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Drew Barganz closed out the evening with pins for their respective teams. Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol pinned their way through the exhibition matches with Sam Abel picking up two wins while Julia Gregory and Ben Roman each picked up one.

 

Both teams head to New London for a tournament on Saturday. Southern Door's next dual at Two Rivers will air on 104.1 WRLU Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. with the prematch show followed by the opening whistle at 6:30  p.m.

 

In other wrestling action, Luxemburg-Casco got past Freedom 45-27 and Kewaunee faced Peshtigo.
