Phoenix round-up: Men fall to Milwaukee, Women's game gets canceled

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after dropping its league opener to Milwaukee Saturday afternoon 68-65.

Josh Jefferson scored 21 points and Amari Davis chipped in 18 points in the loss that saw the Phoenix have to claw back into the game late. The Panthers used a 12-2 run to give them a 49-41 lead with approximately 10 minutes left in the game. The Phoenix would whittle that down to a just a two advantage in the game's final minutes, but the Panthers used a late 7-0 run to put the game out of reach. Te'Jon Lucas led Milwaukee with 21 points in the win.

The two teams will face each other again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Phoenix women saw their game against Illinois State get canceled after the Redbirds' previous opponent Omaha had a number of positive cases. The game was supposed to make up for Youngstown State canceling their weekend slate due to COVID-19 protocols.
