Lost in the flurry of offense, the Milwaukee Brewers' pitching staff is showing to be just as effective in Cactus League play.
Newly acquired Jordan Zimmermann gave up the only run for the Brewers in its 7-1 victory on Monday over the Arizona Diamondbacks. That came in the third inning on an RBI single by Asdrubal Cabrera which temporarily cut the Brewers' lead in half. The Brewers led off the game with a two-run homer by Manny Pina in the first inning before they blew it open in the middle frames. Unlike its slugfest against the White Sox, the Brewers manufactured runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles by Mark Mathias and Billy McKinney. The Brewers scored Mathias on a wild pitch in the fourth inning while Mario Feliciano brought Brice Turang home on a fielder's choice in the fifth.
The Brewers will have their Cactus League home opener when the Oakland A's come to visit American Family Fields of Phoenix.
