Vikings' rally falls short against Oakfield on 105.1 The GOAT

Gibraltar came up just short Saturday afternoon in Kewaskum as they fell to Oakfield 36-32.

Quarterback Luke Steebs opened the scoring up with a 10-yard scamper to the endzone to give the Vikings the early lead. The Oaks scored 16 unanswered points thanks to the legs of Hunter Sabel and Jack Fox before Steebs found the endzone again from four yards out. Grant Bass capped off the scoring in the first half with a one-yard touchdown to give the Oaks a 24-12 lead at the break.

The Oaks opened up the lead to 30-12 when Bass found wide receiver Mason Tapp for the 25-yard passing touchdown.  The Vikings returned volley almost immediately with Sam Lindenberg finding a seam and galloping his way to the endzone from 60 yards out. Later in the quarter, the Oaks matched that run and then some when Fox broke several tackles on a 3rd and 5 and scored from 70 yards out. Steebs would account for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter with one through the air and another on the ground to get the score to 36-32. An onside kick attempt scooted out of bounds to end the threat and the game for the Vikings as they fall to 0-2 on the truncated spring season.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday night when they host Sturgeon Bay at Sevastopol. 103.3 The Clipper and 105.1 The GOAT will carry the action beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
