Cold start sends Phoenix women home early

The Cleveland State Vikings took advantage of a poor offensive start for the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team en route to a 69-42 victory Monday in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals in Indianapolis.

The Phoenix found themselves down early as they started 4-21 from the field and 1-22 from behind the arc. They were down 17-7 after one quarter and only saw that lead grow from there. The team also dearly missed Julia Hartwig and Brooklyn Blackburn who have provided big bodies for the Phoenix all season long. Instead, the Vikings outrebounded them 40-24 and outscored them in the paint 30-16. Sydney Levy led the team with eight points.

It is likely the Phoenix season is done early for the third season in a row. According to Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Phoenix may only accept a WNIT bid if they decided to play in the postseason. The WNIT is usually reserved for the runner-up in the Horizon League Tournament, which will either be IUPUI or the Vikings.
