Tim Kowols, Quinn Struck, and Mary Witteborg -- A close game got out of hand late in Maplewood as the Washington Island Islanders pulled away from the Mets 20-3.
It started off as a close game between the Mets and the Islanders. The Mets earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. The second inning came up blank for both teams, but the Islanders got a run back to tie up the game, then added a second run to take the lead 2-1.
The game was close through the 5th inning until the Mets allowed the bases to get loaded a few times, opening the door for the Islanders to make them them pay for that. Walking in a few runs and hitting a couple batters, the Islanders scored three runs in the 6th, then nine runs in the 7th, and just ran away with it after that.
In Egg Harbor, West Jacksonport scored three late runs to beat Egg Harbor 5-3 in 11 innings. Nick Kita hit a homerun and Egg Harbor loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th inning, but they couldn't get the job done. Luke Steebs earned the win for the Ports.
Kolberg was able to trounce Sister Bay 9-2 in their rematch from last year's playoff championship game.
