Institute rides big inning to victory over Baileys Harbor on 105.1 The GOAT

The Institute Cubs put up six runs in the second inning and didn't need much else in their 11-5 win in Baileys Harbor Friday night.

After both pitchers had 1-2-3 innings in the first inning, the A's Joe Burlo struggled in the second inning as the Cubs sent ten batters to the plate. The Cubs scored six runs on five hits, with Caleb Hoffman, Robby Pollman, Johnny Jorns, Brent Haberli, Ethan Kroll, and Will Hartman scoring in the inning.

The Cubs would extend their lead in the fourth with Quin Schram and Kyle Ploor collecting RBI hits and again in the fifth when they took advantage of a two-base error sparked by Frankie Ash's baserunning.

Hartman kept things rolling until the fifth inning, when the A's had their big inning. Ben Johnson and Andrew Carbajal earned RBI along with their free passes, and Cooper Cole Drove in a run on a fly-out. The A's could get it to within four runs after Cole hit a double and Cal Ellefson reached on a walk before being driven in on consecutive groundouts by Braeden Haines and Jon Kordon.

Kordon was pitching well in relief for the A's after coming in mid-inning for Burlo. He had retired eight in a row before Ash's ninth inning double, a hit by pitch, and a walk loaded the bases. Two runs scored when Kordon rushed a throw home and threw it over the catcher's head for an error.

The A's would get a man on in the ninth, but Ash shut things down to earn the three-inning save.

The Cubs improved to 3-8 on the season while the A's dropped to 0-11.
