Recap of Brewers' first two rounds of MLB Draft

While the rest of MLB is on its All-Star break, team officials across the league are making their picks for the future.

 

The Milwaukee Brewers made three picks on the first day of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, selecting Coastal Carolina infielder Eric Brown Jr. with the 27th overall pick in the first round, right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski of Crowder (Mo.) Junior College with the 63rd overall pick in the second round and infielder Robert Moore of the University of Arkansas with the 72nd overall pick in Competitive Balance Round B. They followed that up with eight selections on Monday. You can learn more about each player below. The MLB Draft continues today with rounds 11-20.

 

Round 1 (27th Overall)
INF ERIC BROWN JR.
B/T: R/R AGE: 21, 12/19/00 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’10”/190
SCHOOL: Coastal Carolina University
NOTES: Brown, 21, batted .330 (68-for-206) with 19 doubles, 2 triples, 7 HR, 40 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 57 games as a junior at Coastal Carolina in 2022. He was named the 2022 preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year by D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game. In 2021, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Brown hit .294 (55-for-187) with 12 doubles, 9 HR, 38 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 50 starts at shortstop and was named All-Sun Belt Second Team. Brown played second base and third base for Coastal Carolina as a freshman in the shortened 2020 season, batting .259 with 3 doubles, 10 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 16 games. A native of Bossier City, La., Brown was a 2019 Perfect Game/Rawlings Preseason All-American prior to his senior season at Parkway High School (La.).
 

Round 2 (63rd Overall)
RHP JACOB MISIOROWSKI
B/T: R/R AGE: 20, 4/03/02 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’7”/190
SCHOOL: Crowder (Mo.) College
NOTES: Misiorowski, 20, went 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA (76ip, 23er) as a redshirt freshman at Crowder, earning NJCAA Division I Second-Team All-American honors. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound right-hander struck out 136 batters across 76.0 innings in 15 starts with 2 complete games. Misiorowski is the highest draft pick in program history and is the first Roughrider to be selected since the Brewers drafted Aaron Ashby in fourth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. He is committed to LSU. In Crowder’s regional semifinal against Jefferson College, Misiorowski struck out 18 batters across 7.2 scoreless innings, the most strikeouts by a Roughrider pitcher since Ashby struck out 17 hitters on 5/11/18 vs. Mineral Area College. Misiorowski was committed to play at Oklahoma State University before opting to attend Crowder College.

 

Competitive Balance Round B (72nd Overall)
INF ROBERT MOORE
B/T: S/R AGE: 20, 3/31/02 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’9”/170
SCHOOL: University of Arkansas
NOTES: Moore, 20, batted .232 (56-for-241) with 19 doubles, 2 triples, 8 HR, 44 RBI and 5 stolen bases in 65 games as a junior at Arkansas in 2022. He won the Rawlings/ABCA Gold Glove Award at second base, becoming the first player in Razorbacks history to garner the honor as the nation’s best defensive player at their respective position. A 5-foot-9, 170-pound switch-hitter, Moore was named Freshman All-American Second Team by Baseball America and All-SEC First Team in 2021 after hitting .283 (66-for-233) with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 16 HR and 53 RBI in 61 games. He played in 16 games as a freshman in the shortened 2020 season, batting .317 (20-for-63) with 2 doubles, 2 HR and 17 RBI to earn Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. A native of Leawood, KS, Moore is the son of Kansas City Royals President of Baseball Operations Dayton Moore.
Round 3 (102nd Overall)
SS DYLAN O’RAE
B/T: L/R AGE: 18, 2/14/04 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’9”/160
SCHOOL: Northern Collegiate (ON) Institute
NOTES: O’Rae, 18, earned Prep Baseball Report’s Player of the Year in Canada for 2022. He was a member of Baseball Canada’s Junior National Team fall instructional camp roster in 2021 and spring and pre-draft training camp roster in 2022. The left-handed hitting shortstop played for the Great Lakes Canadians in the CPBL, which also produced Brewers prospect Tyler Black. O’Rae was named the CPBL All-Star Showcase MVP in 2021. He is committed to the University of Illinois.
 

Round 4 (132nd Overall)
C MATTHEW WOOD
B/T: L/R AGE: 21, 3/02/01 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’10”/190
SCHOOL: Penn State University
NOTES: Wood, 21, batted .379 (75-for-198) with 15 doubles, 3 triples, 12 HR, 53 RBI and 5 stolen bases in 54 games as a junior at Penn State in 2022. Wood hit .413 (38-for-92) in conference play and won the Big Ten batting title, earning All-Big Ten First Team honors. The left-handed hitting backstop was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team in 2021 after batting .295 (41-for-139) with 10 doubles, a triple, 4 HR and 21 RBI in 39 games. Wood made 13 starts in the shortened 2020 season, hitting .314 (16-for-51) with a double and 5 RBI. Wood is the highest selected player in Penn State history.
 

Round 5 (162nd Overall)
RHP WILL RUDY
B/T: R/R AGE: 21, 5/7/01 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’1”/170
SCHOOL: California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
NOTES: Rudy, 21, went 8-1 with a 3.10 ERA (87ip, 30er) in 13 starts as a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona in 2022 to earn CCAA Most Valuable Pitcher and All-CCAA First Team honors after leading the conference in wins and strikeouts (96). Named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-American Third Team, Rudy issued just 15 walks and struck out 96 batters over 87.0 innings. The right-hander worked at least 6.0 innings in 12 of his 13 starts in 2022. Cal Poly Pomona did not have a season in 2021 due to COVID-19. Rudy made 3 appearances in the shortened 2020 campaign, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (3.1ip, 2er).
 

Round 6 (192nd Overall)
RHP TYLER WOESSNER
B/T: R/R AGE: 22, 10/26/99 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’4”/230
SCHOOL: Central Arizona College (AZ)
NOTES: Woessner, 22, went 11-2 with a 3.55 ERA (96.1ip, 38er) with 122 strikeouts in 19 appearances (18 starts) for Central Arizona College and earned 2022 NJCAA Division I World Series All-Tournament Team honors. In 2021, the right-hander went 8-1 with a 5.25 ERA (70.1ip, 41er) and 81 strikeouts in 17 appearances (13 starts). Woessner made 6 relief appearances in the shortened 2020 season and finished 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA (12.1ip, 1er) and 20 strikeouts. As a freshman in 2019, Woessner made 18 relief appearances and went 1-0 with a 3.45 ERA (31.1ip, 12er) and 31 strikeouts.
 

Round 7 (222nd Overall)
3B BEN METZINGER
B/T: R/R AGE: 23, 6/26/99 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’0”/195
SCHOOL: University of Louisville
NOTES: Metzinger, 23, batted .312 (84-for-269) with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 19 HR, 69 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 64 games as a senior for Louisville in 2022 to earn All-ACC Third Team honors. The right-handed hitter drew 51 walks, the 10th-most in a single season in Louisville history. He ranked among ACC leaders in walks (2nd, 51), RBI (T8th, 69), total bases (9th, 159) and runs (T9th, 66). Metzinger batted .235 (12-for-51) with a double, 3 HR and 10 RBI in 20 games (11 starts) as a junior in 2021. He hit a pair of homers in the opening game of the 2021 ACC Championship en route to being named to the All-ACC Tournament team. Metzinger started 11 games for Louisville in the shortened 2020 season, hitting .349 (15-for-43) with a double, 2 HR and 8 RBI. As a freshman in 2019, Metzinger batted .312 (5-for-16) with a double and 4 RBI in 12 games for the Cardinals. In his career at Louisville, Metzinger played third base, second base, shortstop and catcher.
 

Round 8 (252nd Overall)
RHP NATE PETERSON
B/T: L/L AGE: 22, 2/15/00 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’10”/180
SCHOOL: University of Illinois at Chicago (IL)
NOTES: Peterson, 22, went 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA (88ip, 38er) as a redshirt sophomore in 2022, earning All-Horizon League First Team honors. He tallied 102 strikeouts across 14 starts, coming within 3 strikeouts of the program’s single-season record. The southpaw transferred to UIC following two seasons at Oklahoma State University. In the shortened 2020 season, Peterson made 5 relief appearances for the Cowboys and 11 relief appearances covering 13.0 innings as a freshman in 2019. Peterson earned 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American honors out of Lakeville North High School (Minn.).
 

Round 9 (282nd Overall)
C TAYDEN HALL
B/T: L/R AGE: 19, 1/12/03 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’4”/215
SCHOOL: State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota
NOTES: Hall, 19, batted .364 (63-for-173) with 16 doubles, 2 triples, 9 HR, 48 RBI and 4 stolen bases in 49 games at the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota as a freshman in 2022 to earn FCSAA Second Team All-State and First Team All-Suncoast Conference honors. He is currently playing for the Williamsport Crosscutters in the MLB Draft League, batting .313 (21-for-67) with 6 doubles, 14 RBI and a .511 on-base percentage in 22 games. Hall originally committed to University of South Florida out of Steinbrenner High School (Fla.). He is the son of former Major League catcher Toby Hall, who played 9 seasons for Tampa Bay, Los Angeles-NL and Chicago-AL.

 

Round 10 (312nd Overall)
RHP BRIAN FITZPATRICK
B/T: S/L AGE: 22, 6/01/00 HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6’7”/230
SCHOOL: Rutgers University (NJ)
NOTES: Fitzpatrick, 22, went 3-1 with a 3.91 ERA (23ip, 10er) across 6 starts as a redshirt sophomore in 2022. The southpaw made 14 relief appearances in 2021 for the Scarlett Knights and made 3 appearances (1 start) as a freshman in 2019. Fitzpatrick threw 19.0 scoreless innings with 19 strikeouts across 4 starts for the Brewster Whitecaps in the 2022 Cape Cod League.
