Luxemburg-Casco's Gabe Havel and Sturgeon Bay's Julia Kurek were the top local finishers at Thursday's Bob Burzynski Invite hosted by Valders.
The Spartans varsity boys took first place, with Gabe Havel taking fourth overall with a time of 17:50. The Spartans won with an overall score of 52 points.
Kurek finished in 29th place overall with a time of 24:53, leading the Clippers girls to a seventh place finish.
In other local cross country news, two Green Bay area coaches were honored with events being named after them. The 5K course at Colburn Park on Green Bay's west side will be known as the Don Buntman Cross Country Course. Buntman coached at Green Bay West and Bay Port during his 30-plus year career. The renamed course featured Kewaunee, Gibraltar, and Sturgeon Bay during the 2021 spring pandemic season. Speaking of Bay Port, their annual meet held at Meadowbrook Park will be known as the Mike Jameson Invitational, honoring their former head coach of 30-plus years.
