Weather cancels high school slate

Athletic directors across the state will have an unenviable task after the holiday compliments of Mother Nature.

The winter storm, which could dump up to a foot of snow and produce whiteout conditions due to high winds, was the culprit behind canceling Thursday's schedule of games. PackerlandConference.org  shows that a limited number of the games have already been rescheduled. One game that got a little extra attention was the planned boys' basketball game between Sturgeon Bay and Algoma. The contest was supposed to be tribute to the late Jim Benesh. Sturgeon Bay School District told its Facebook followers on Thursday to stay tuned for updates concerning new dates for both of the events.

Most programs will restart again after December 26th, but one event did get canceled for Friday. Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol and Southern Door's girl wrestlers were scheduled to head to Wrightstown to battle the likes of Amherst, Antigo, Bark River-Harris, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Florence, Grafton, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay West, Marinette, Menominee (MI), New Berlin West, New London, Oconto Falls, Oshkosh North, Shiocton, Whitefish Bay,  and Xavier.
