Eagles girls falter in second half; fall to Wolves on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles were not able to overcome their second half struggles in the WIAA Division 4 Regional Quarterfinals, falling to Algoma 48-34 on U-102.1 Tuesday.

The beginning of the game saw the two teams’ defenses stun each others’ offense, as the game was tied early on at 4-4 with 10:35 remaining in the first half. Allianna Dufek would finally get going in the post for the Eagles, giving them a lead towards the end of the half.

Algoma however would answer before the halftime buzzer, with Brooke Mattson hitting a buzzer beating three as time expired to tie the game up at 18 going into the half.

Allianna Dufek and Sierra Slaby would be the ones to lead the way for the respective teams in scoring in the first.

Algoma would come out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as Ryley Zimmerman and Emily Kirchman would combine for a 12-0 Algoma run, as the Eagles were held scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half.

Southern Door could not establish any post presence in the second half, and would commit some costly turnovers down the stretch leading to the 48-34 loss.

Algoma will travel to #1 Crandon on Friday.
