Phoenix women capture Horizon League, men falter

It was another home doubleheader split for the Green Bay basketball programs, with the women further cementing their Horizon League Championship against IPFW.

Sydney Levy led the Phoenix with 20 points to help lead the Phoenix past the Mastodons 70-64. It was slow going for the Phoenix early as the shots refused to fall, but second and third-chance opportunities helped keep them close to the Mastodons. Trailing 31-30 at the break, the Phoenix went on a 10-0 run that would keep them ahead for the rest of the game. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz earned her third career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Bailey Butler and Cassie Schiltz also scored double figures.

The men came up short in their game against the Mastodons, losing 78-61.  Randy Tucker's 19 points led the Phoenix in the Saturday matinee. Davin Zeigler contributed 10 points while Clarence Cummings III contributed 10 in the losing cause. The Mastodons would extend their lead by 20 points before the Phoenix could whittle it down.

Both squads will turn their attention to the Horizon League Tournament with the men playing on Tuesday and the women hosting on Thursday.
